To those terrified of AI,
here’s a harsh and often overlooked truth: at any given moment, Earth could be struck by a random object from the cold, indifferent depths of space. NASA currently tracks over 25,000 near-Earth asteroids, and while most pose no immediate threat, history reminds us—the dinosaurs didn’t see it coming either. A single impact could erase the human being entirely. No warning. No negotiation. No control.
And yet, we live our lives pretending we’re in charge. We map the skies, regulate economies, invent smart machines, and still act as if the planet revolves around our will. But humanity never truly ruled this Earth. We adapted to it. We exploited parts of it. But we never controlled the oceans, the tectonic plates, the viruses, or the climate—not really.
Even now, as the climate warms beyond agreed limits, as ecosystems collapse under the weight of industrial progress, we remain shocked that nature does not obey us. And now that we face something created by our own hands—artificial intelligence—we tremble again. But not because it’s unnatural. Rather, because it mirrors us too well and moves beyond us too fast.
AI is not a distant myth. It’s already writing texts, generating images, composing music, making decisions in finance, law, and warfare. In 2023, ChatGPT reached 100 million users within two months—a rate of adoption faster than any technology in history. Algorithms already shape what we see, buy, think, vote for. We are not preparing for a future with AI. We are already living in it.
And yet, we respond not with vision, but with fear. Fear won’t stop the future. Fear has never stopped change. We are stepping into an era where human beings are no longer the only intelligent agents on the planet—and perhaps, not even the most capable.
So maybe it’s time to stop clinging to the illusion of control. It was never more than partial, and it was always temporary. And from that uncomfortable truth, we might finally begin to grow—not by dominating, but by learning how to coexist—with nature, with technology, and with forces beyond our command.
